Chocolate Oreo Mousse Pi Day Pie!

Hello everybody! And a very happy Pi Day to you all! Normally this day just passes by me as a regular day, but this year I decided to celebrate, and I wanted to do it with all of you 😄 To mark the occasion, I decided to make - and eat - my very first pie ever! Yes, I am one of those weird aliens living on Earth that has never eaten a slice of pie before. This recipe looked so yummy that I was dying to try it out! Just to be clear, this is not my recipe, but was created by +Rosanna Pansino of Nerdy Nummies. One great thing about this recipe is that it's a No-Bake Pie. The only thing that goes into the oven is the Oreo cookie crust, and it bakes for only 5 minutes at 350 F. I have to say, after I was able to try the pie once it was finally done, the cookie crumb crust was probably my favorite, it was so delicious! That's probably because it was made with a whole whack of butter 😋

I don't know about you guys, but I really enjoy baking. When I find a recipe that I want to try making, it's like a little adventure, making it for the first time and hoping it turns out the way its supposed to. I was happy to have a little help with this pie; my boyfriend's mother Judy helped me scrape Oreo cream out of the cookies (and to twist them to get them open - they'd been in the fridge, so getting the suckers open was a particular challenge). She also helped me blend the cookies into crumbs with her blender, which was so loud I had to cover my ears 😣
Kurt also helped me melt the chocolate chips with the vanilla and the cream, which was very helpful as I started to make the whip cream with the last of the heavy cream and the sugar. He was rewarded for his help with a bowl of all the Oreo cream his mom and I had scraped from the cookies 😆 He was very grateful for the sugar-y gift.

The only real issue I had was the whipped cream I was making in the mixer, because it wasn't reaching the right consistency I knew it needed to be, but in the end I learned that all I needed was to be patient. After leaving the mixer on and spending some quality time on the floor with Amy, Kurt's Golden Retriever, I was able to see hard peaks start to form when I went back to the mixer. And it was delicious.
Mix the whipped cream and the chocolate, and BAM! Chocolate Mousse! Here's where the hard part comes in - letting the pie chill in the fridge for 6 Whole Hours. It takes a whole lotta patience to make this pie, but it gave me time to spend some quality time with Kurt on my day off 😊 I also had time to create the stencil for the Pi symbol that I would use to decorate the top of the pie.
And HERE is the finished product, a heavy dosage of Cool Whip and some more Oreo cookie crumbs later. Kurt helped me out with the stencil, and he even held it for me as I sprinkled the cookie crumbs on top. We may have pulled the pie out of the fridge a little early, by about 30 minutes, but I had started making this pie late in the afternoon and it was midnight and we couldn't wait anymore XD

Doesn't it look yummy? It should, because it is 😋 I haven't had another piece since the night I made this, but I'm told that the overall taste and consistency of the pie gets even better the longer you leave it in the fridge, Cool Whip and all.
