Fables Vol. 6 - YA Bingo

Completed on: November 29th
# of Pages: 190
Bingo Category: A Book With A Dragon
So I've picked another Fables graphic novel for another bingo category. I did have another YA novel I planned on reading for this category - but for fear that I may not finish it in time, I have this graphic novel that I read on the way to Aurora for a Christmas party I attended on the last Saturday in November that I can talk to you guys about.

Assuming that you're okay with some very adult content, Fables is a great series that could potentially help a person transition into reading comic books and graphic novels. The characters are ones that we are familiar with on a surface level - characters from various fairy tales and stories from our childhood - but they are also given more of a tragic back story and are left to age hundreds of years and then are set to maneuver through an area of modern day New York City. Actually, there's an episode of The Big Bang Theory where Stuart recommends Fables to Penny, Bernadette and Amy who have stopped into his store for comic book recommendations for themselves. "The artwork is sophisticated, it's intelligently written and it doesn't objectify your stereotype women." Couldn't have said it better myself, Stuart!
Technically, the beast that exists in the 6th graphic novel is a Jabberwocky and not specifically your run-of-the-mill dragon, but the masked man in question, who you find out quickly enough is Little Boy Blue with the Withching Cloak and the Vorpal Sword, references it as a type of dragon, so it totally counts! This scene with discovering the Jabberwocky and Blue slaying it doesn't last for too many pages, but the conversation between the two of them as Blue works to slay the Jabberwocky is still interesting to read. This particular volume is a great one to read, because so much happens, such as the identity of the great enemy of this series, The Adversary, is at last revealed! But I won't spoil anything from this series - you'll have to find out for yourself ;)
1 MORE TO GO!

  1. I heard so many great things about Fables that I picked up Vol. 1 and 2 a could months ago. Unfortunately I hit a reading slump, so I haven't started it yet, but this post makes me giddy to pick it up and start reading!
